Finished my shepherdess! Lol it didn't change that much. When it came down to it I couldn't think what more to do with it.

I should be on my way to bed right now! It's snowing, and I have hopes that maybe we'll get a snow day tomorrow~. But at the moment I don't think the snow is high enough. Maybe, maybe~.
So I'm going to submit my portfolio to a few book publishers. I need extra money, and what better way to go get it than by illustrating for children's books? This was the big plan all last fall - work on my portfolio, send it out to a bunch of places, quit my job, and become a full-time freelancer. But I wasn't producing the volume of work I hoped for. I have this awful habit of reviewing my work, saying to myself, "No, it's not ready yet, let me add a few more pieces," and delaying myself in the interests of making my work better. Maybe try out a different style, or a different medium, or produce one more series. I mean, it's good to have realistic expectations and to be prepared, certainly. But for me, I never reach the point where I confidently say "I'm ready."
I was talking about this with my mom and she put it in an interesting light. It's like DNA, she said. You can't change it. What you have to offer is what you have. Maybe you can improve upon it with time, but you are who you are.
And this makes perfect sense to me. How I draw is how I draw. Maybe one day I'll have the perfect art portfolio... but for now, what I have is what I have. So I might as well just go for it. The worst they can do is say no, and if that happens, I'll regroup. But I won't know what art directors are looking for unless I submit.

01:02 am - Cuz I've been drinkin' lots of Starbucks lately...
I... possibly have too much going on at the moment. After a summer of being bored out of my mind. Funny how that works out.
The day job's okay so far, though a bit tedious. I spend most of it thinking about all the drawing I could be doing... but then when I get home, I'm so tired that I end up lazing about until it's time for bed.
In result, the art projects pile up. :p I've got a few comics I'm working on - one of which I am illustrating. Luckily it doesn't start updating until the end of September, and I've got the first two pages inked, but I'd like to get a little farther along than that. The other two I have a year to work on, but a year can easily come and go.

In closing... I'm listening to show-tunes lately. o__o I've always loved musicals, but I want to see Wicked earlier this year and it really inspired me. I think, if I had an opportunity to work in theatre, I'd so go for it... hell, guys like Howard Ashman and Alan Menkin brought their theatrical skills over to animation, I imagine the reverse could be possible. I just love a good story, bottom line - don't matter the medium.
Anyhoo, it keeps the juices flowing as I'm working. I just wish I had more time for all this work.

Let's be honest, Vaya always looks like a girl.
He's a slightly older Vaya. Been a while since I've messed around with him. Uhhh and at some point I'm gonna post other stuff. I plan to start drawing a whole lot more this summer.

My first Computer Animation class was today, which means the new semester has started in earnest. Time to get down and dirty with my thesis.
Buuuut instead of that I'm drawing nuns.
